Lisa Tannebaum Residency

Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) is grateful for the profound contributions of guest artist Lisa Tannebaum in support of the Marilynn Tannebaum Youth Music Education Institute.
A critically-acclaimed harpist, Lisa has performed solo, chamber and orchestral repertoire at major venues and festivals throughout Europe and the United States.
In November 2022 and March 2023, Lisa visited the IPO to share her artistry through a wide variety of educational events and performances.

HOW TO LISTEN TO MUSIC ON THE HARP

Over the course of the 2022-23 school year, Lisa presented nine seminars to students at Prairie State College enrolled in Music Appreciation and American Music classes. Her lecture, “How to Listen to Music on the Harp,” inspires listeners to actively engage with music through the use of narrative and movement.

Harp and Storytime

Together with her mother Marilynn Tannebaum, Lisa hosted an educational concert at Prairie State College for 58 students from Wilson Elementary School in Chicago Heights, IL. Marilynn captivated the students with a story she picked up from her travels in Africa while Lisa artfully underscored the plot with improvised musical motifs. Students even got to enjoy a guest appearance by IPO’s Executive Director, Christina Salerno, who drew from her background as a professional ballet dancer to guide students through a movement activity along with harp music.

Lisa Tannebaum Masterclass

On Sunday, March 12th, IPO held a performance masterclass in partnership with the American Harp Society at Trinity Christian College. Five young musicians from the south suburban community performed for and received constructive feedback from Lisa in front of an audience of their peers and supporters. A proud educator, Lisa is able to work with instrumentalists of all disciplines and abilities. She is also the founder and Executive Director of Music in the Woods, a nonprofit that provides educational opportunities for students, and musical enrichment for the community.
